Frequently Asked Questions

Need a Building Permit?

Planning to do some building or remodeling? Building permits are $25 for any non-residential structure costing more than $500. Most remodeling projects are also covered under this permit. Contact Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen at (608) 378-4813 for more information.

For residential building projects, the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code is in force in the township. Building permits and inspections are required. Contact the building inspector, General Engineering Company at 1-800-955-7896, with any questions and to obtain a permit.

Requests for new rural address/fire numbers may be obtained from the Town Clerk. If a sign is missing, you are required to replace it.

Installing a New Mailbox?

When placing a mailbox along a rural road, the bottom of the mailbox should be positioned 41 inches to 45 inches from the road surface and 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. Mailbox supports should be stable, but bend or fall away if a car hits them. A 4×4-inch wooden support or a 2-inch diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe is recommended.
